SMK Seri Putera / PICA Chess Tournament 2013
Attracting 88 participants, the SMK Seri Putera / PICA Chess Tournament 2013, was quite a success. There were a total of three age groups for boys and girls respectively, Veteran’s and Open Categories.
The first and second place winners in each age group per gender received a trophy, while the top ten players in the Open category received cash prizes. The champion in the Open category, Fong Yit San, took home RM150 cash.
As far as I know, SMK Seri Putera / PICA Chess Tournament 2013 is the first tournament of the year, besides the leg matches of the 2013 Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Chess Championship. However, the momentum picks up in the chess scene from April onwards, with the next tournament two weeks later, in Sungai Siput, Perak.
Check out my photos to see the champions of the SMK Seri Putera / PICA Chess Tournament 2013. The winner of the Veteran category was Ahmad Muzadfar. By the way, both winners of Under-12 and Under-15 age groups for girls were placed third in the recent Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) chess championships.
