Kejohanan Catur Terbuka Piala Datuk Bandar Ipoh 2012

The recent Mayor’s Cup 2012 received good response, I guess because it’s a national-rated chess tournament. It attracted some 164 players.

It was jointly organised by Persatuan Catur Daerah Kinta (PUNCAK) and Classical Chess, with the co-operation of Ipoh City Council. The Mayor’s Cup, with Ipoh City Mayor (Datuk Bandar Ipoh) Dato’ Hj. Roshidi Hj. Hashim as main sponsor who contributed RM5000, and carries a challenge trophy, was revived after a lapse of more than ten years.

Dato’ Roshidi, in his speech, agreed to include this tournament in Ipoh City Council’s annual calendar of events and also pledged to increase his sponsorship next year by RM2,000 to RM7,000. He would also look into the request by PUNCAK President, Kamaruddin Samsuri, to set up a chess corner at D.R. Park, like the old times.

While I took photos of all top winners, I am disappointed that I couldn’t share them all. Next time, look into my camera! Nonetheless, congratulations to all of you.
