SMI Cake-Cutting Ceremony & Unveiling of Centennial Logo

The sky was just brightening when I arrived at St. Michaael’s Institution, Ipoh, yesterday morning, and I experienced an acute sense of déjà vu as I headed to the assembly ground. My time at SMI may be fleeting, yet, I feel an affiliation with the school. I thank Master Peter Khiew for extending an invitation to me to be part of the function where a cake-cutting ceremony was held and the Centennial logo unveiled. 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the school, so, “Happy birthday, St. Michael’s!”
Yesterday saw a mini “homecoming” for former principals and teachers of the school. The guest of honour was Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lee Oi Hian, Chairman of the Board of Governors-cum-Centennial Celebration Chairman. He is the CEO of KL Kepong Bhd. The meaningful morning began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by speeches by Mdm. Loh Wei Seng, Principal of the school; Dato’ Bro. Vincent Corkery and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lee Oi Hian. All touched on the rich culture of the school, its strong culture of service and the Lasallian ethos.
Three cakes that made up the numbers 100 were brought out. They were cut to mark the birthday celebration of the school. This was soon followed by the unveiling of the Centennial logo. The logo was designed by Muhamad Hadi Amierul B. Nor Azmi, who completed Form 5 last year. Guests later proceeded to visit the Michaelian Heritage Room.

Another great coverage. Thank you for your participation. Seeing so many reporters that day converging at St Michael’s was a real honour for us Michaelians. Cheers!
Thank you so much for inviting me, Peter. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known about this meaningful occasion!
Green and White….. unite^^ my former school><
Hey, that’s the balcony we used to throw my bags down into the bushes so that we can then calmly walk down, grab our bags and then play hooky.
We have some good times and bad. One of the worst was when as a class monitor, I get picked for a example-setting socialist style hair cut.
Good times? There’s not enough room here !
Hi Ritchie,
Thanks for your comment. Funny how when we were students, we tried to avoid attending classes but when we have left, we miss school, right?
