Opening of Nasi Kandar Pelita Ipoh
Malaysia’s favourite nasi kandar restaurant is back in Ipoh! Yesterday, a crowd of well-wishers had already converged at the new outlet in Ipoh as early as 9.30am even though lunch would only be served from 11am onwards.
According to Executive Chairman of the company, Dato’ Shamsuri Bin Ahmad, this is a good indication that they have selected a strategic location for their 29th nasi kandar outlet.
Nasi Kandar Pelita is not new to Ipoh. Locals could remember the outlet in Tesco Ipoh Garden which operated for a good number of years. I was a regular there and was disappointed when they had to withdraw from the market almost two years ago due to unforeseen circumstances. Boy, am I glad that they have decided to return! There is another Pelita outlet in Perak – it is in Taiping Sentral Mall.
To celebrate the auspicious occasion yesterday, complimentary lunch was served to the public. An estimated number of 4,500 people took up the generous offer. As you can see from my photos, it was full house. People of all races came over for a hearty meal, which speaks a lot about the popularity of nasi kandar.
However, what makes Nasi Kandar Pelita Ipoh different from the other Pelita restaurants? This is the first and only outlet that offers Shawarma, a Middle Eastern meat wrap. Diners can choose from a choice of chicken or mutton. This speciality will slowly be introduced to other Pelita restaurants in due time but meanwhile, if you want to savour this delicacy, you have to come to Ipoh!
Other than that, this 24-hour Indian Muslim restaurant offers its regular menu, where besides nasi kandar, you can have tandoori chicken, roti canai, nasi lemak, mee goreng and many more.
The 30th outlet of Pelita would be open in Seremban in the first week of June. Nasi kandar is not only well-loved by Malaysians, Pelita has also branched out to Chennai in India. In 2017, we may very well see a Pelita restaurant in London, too!

Long queue means good food. Sometimes if the food is really good, ambiance and all doesn’t matter much.

Long queue definitely attracts people but sometimes with kids i usually avoid these places as no patience.
