Mega Gotong-Royong @ Bandar Baru Bercham Ipoh

Clearing illegal rubbish dump sites, cleaning drains, repainting road shoulders and dividers, pruning trees, removing Ah Long posters, etc., these were some of the work done during a massive “gotong-royong” effort in Bandar Baru Bercham Ipoh, a collaboration between Ipoh City Council and the local community.

Kick-started by Bercham assemblyman YB Ong Boon Piow, the activity was led by Ipoh City Councillor for Bercham, YBhg. Clr Jacky Ngo Kok Foong, other council members, department heads and residents, totalling 300 people.

As of November 2018, 1672 illegal dump sites have been cleared 43730 times, with 4138 tons of garbage removed. Up until November, Ipoh City Council had organised 110 “gotong-royong” and also installed 491 “Do Not Dump” signage.

In his opening speech, YB Ong expressed hope that all parties would cooperate closely with Ipoh City Council to make Ipoh “Bersih, Hijau dan Maju” (Clean, Green and Progressive). Most importantly, every individual must do his part to dispose of refuse properly.
