Kelab Sukan & Kebajikan Media Perak (in English: Perak Media Sports and Welfare Club) hosted a Deepavali charity dinner for kids from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ihsan Kanak-kanak Arut Perum Jothy (children’s home) at the Legendary Club in Ipoh on Sunday.
Although Deepavali fell on 29th October in Malaysia this year, the festival, like all Malaysia festivals, is celebrated for a month. Yes, despite the hectic schedule of media friends in Perak, we made it on time!
The children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ihsan Kanak-kanak Arut Perum Jothy were all smiles as they were treated to a scrumptious buffet spread and entertained with Indian classical dances.
The children were also presented with sponsored gifts that included a school bag, which would come in handy when a new school term begins in January 2017.
The dinner event, which was graced by club adviser, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Datuk Akmar Hisham Mokhles, was well-supported by corporate sponsors and non-governmental organisations, without whom this event would not be as successful as it was.
Since the establishment of Kelab Sukan & Kebajikan Media Perak in February 2008, the club has been hosting charity events annually during festive seasons of all the major races, in the spirit of ‘1 Malaysia’ to spread the joy of festivity to those who are less fortunate.
This festive occasion for the Indian community reminded many club members of their 5-day visit to India in January. The tour included New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur to spread the essence of 1 Malaysia to the Indians.
At the dinner, press members who recently received state awards from HRH Sultan of Perak during his birthday, were honoured by the club, too.
