Ipoh International Run 2013
The internationally-recognised run around Ipoh city known as Ipoh International Run attracted the largest number of participants this year, at 17,634. The largest overseas delegation was from Thailand with 139 runners.
This run which was organised since 1985, and at its 18th edition this year, even attracted some VIP runners like YTM Raja Dato’ Seri Yong Sofia Sultan Azlan Shah, who is the youngest princess of DYMM Sultan Azlan Shah, Sultan of Perak, and Deputy Mayor of Hatyai City Municipality, Dr. Roongroje Kuapanich, who led a delegation of 110 runners from Hatyai, Thailand.
Guests-of-honour invited to flag off the races were Y.B. Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, State Exco for Local Government, for the 21km and 10km races, and Y.B. Puan Nolee Ashilin Mohd. Radzi, State Exco for Health, Tourism and Culture, for the 7km and 5km runs.
Opened to runners from around the world who are at least 13 years of age, Ipoh International Run, which offers a total of eleven categories and one Fun Run category, the success of this run has propelled sports tourism in Ipoh to another level.
