Ipoh City Council (MBI) Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration
“Meriah” is the Malay word that comes to mind, at the Hari Raya celebration of Ipoh City Council, where the entire workforce of the city council, numbering approximately 2000 and their families, were invited to join in the festivity, dressed in resplendent Malay traditional outfits.
The venue of the event, Stadium Indera Mulia Ipoh, was abuzz with excitement this afternoon with the arrival of guest-of-honour Perak Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal bin Azumu, who was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Dr. Nomee Ashikin Dato’ Mohammed Radzi. Both were dressed ‘sedondon’ in pink.
Other VIPs present at the function were Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament YB Wong Kah Woh, Ipoh City Councillors, Council Secretary, Presidents of District Councils (YDP), Department Heads, and other invited guests.
Also present were some 40 residents of Rumah Seri Kenangan Ulu Kinta, a senior citizens’ home, to share the joy of the season together with the not-so-privileged of the community.
During his opening address, Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal expressed hopes that the strong working relationship between the MB’s office (Pejabat Menteri Besar) and Ipoh City Council would continue.
At Stadium Indera Mulia, officers and staff of Ipoh City Council came out in full force to enliven the event.
The various departments within MBI brought more cheer when they competed against one another for the best decorated booth as they decked their respective booths as creatively as possible according to the “Aidilfitri” theme. Points were also given for the competitors’ amiability, booth cleanliness and tidiness.
As guests were feted to a scrumptious lunch of Malay delicacies such as rendang, lemang, and satay while being entertained by the Council’s very own singing and dancing troupe, Gema Warisan Budaya, lucky attendees walked home with household electrical appliances via a raffle draw.
