Ipoh City Council Mass Cooking of Bubur Lambuk

Staff of Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (Ipoh City Council) took time off their usual work yesterday. Instead, they joined hands to prepare bubur lambuk, a staple berbuka puasa item, to be distributed to the general public.

Staff from the various departments within the city council set up their respective elaborately-decorated cooking booths. There were ten from the council, as well as one from Nestlé Malaysia and another from a salted egg enterprise. The ‘chefs for the day’ were already hard at work since 8am.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man, Council Secretary En. Zakuan Zakaria, Ipoh City Councillors, and Council Heads of Department were present as well. They visited every booth, not only to give moral support but also to help out by being hands on.

This mass cooking of bubur lambuk by Ipoh City Council staff outside their office building is an annual event. Besides forging closer ties among its workforce, it also enlivens the observation of Ramadan. This year’s mass cooking was also in celebration of Ipoh City’s 29th anniversary.

By 3pm, the porridge was ready for the Mayor to distribute to the public. Indeed, they were greatly surprised by the gift. At the end of the event, Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat was declared winner for Best Decorated Booth.
