Ipoh Car-Free Day: World Book Day
The 18th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day had the theme of “World Book Day”, which was coincidentally observed on the same day, April 23.
In accordance with the theme, both Tun Razak Library and Perak State Public Library made their presence felt by trying to encourage the reading habit among the community.
Besides setting up a street library for the convenience of library members, there were reading corners by the road side too. Nothing beats being out relaxing in the open with a good book in hand!
This Ipoh Car-Free Day Programme is one of Ipoh City Council’s success stories, hosting this monthly event without fail on the last Sunday of the month.
It is a well-known fact among other city councils, so much so that yesterday morning saw Shah Alam Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ahmad Zaharin bin Mohd Saad participating in the Ipoh programme to personally experience the event and see how it could be implemented in his city in Selangor.
The morning event, which kicked off with Ipoh Pinky Fun Walk saw a line-up of about 15 different activities, from Zumba to cycling, health checks, fitness training, photo challenge and autism awareness. By the way, World Autism Awareness Day is observed on April 2 annually.

Nice event to create awareness on car free day. I’m sure many will benefit from this.
thanks for sharing!
Wow I wish Manila also have this kind of car free event regularly, and hangout with family. It is a huge help to make the community more livable 🙂
The event so successful and everyone seem enjoying.
very interesting event. seeing so many firefighters there hehe
Besides with car free day! Now we have world book day, definitely feel the importance of reading books since small too =D
I heard many stories about ipoh (my hometown) here
It’s a great idea to have a street library too during car free day. Sometimes, I think we don’t read enough, playing with phones while commuting in lrt. If I didn’t have motion sickness, I’ll read everywhere that I could.
it is always loads of fun getting to walk around and wow… having a street library… how can I resist.. i love books and reading…
