Inaugural Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur 2023
The long-anticipated Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur opened with much excitement on Friday, 9th June 2023, by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
Also present at the launching event were Mr Jason Yap (Chief Executive Officer-cum-Director of Element X Strategies); Encik Riduwan Matni (Chief Executive Officer of MUSE Group Asia); and Mr Hidenori Ito (Chief Executive Officer of San Ei Corporation).
In the 40-year history of Tokyo Auto Salon, this event marked the first time that the world’s foremost renowned custom and performance car show in Japan is hosted outside the country. This collaborative effort received praise from Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul, describing it as an incredibly innovative automobile event.
He said, “Congratulations Element X Strategies, MUSE Group Asia, and San El Corporation for co-organising Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur. I believe it will bring exceptional value to not only Malaysia and the ASEAN region but also serve as an important catalyst for greater business opportunities between Japan and the regional automotive and aftermarket industry players.
“Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur serves as an important and influential platform to cultivate and enhance business opportunities and collaborations. This is an area that greatly interests and continues to be pursued by Malaysia and one that I hope Malaysian businesses and entities will take full advantage of.”
Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur is a satellite event modelled identically after the original show in Tokyo. Hosted at Kuala Lumpur’s MITEC, it covers a total floor space of 130,000 sq. ft. 150,000 visitors are expected to visit the show over these three days from 9th until 11th June, 2023.
“While Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur is not as large as the original show in Japan, visitors can expect to view quality displays and exhibits, with the participation of renowned tuners from Japan and their specially-tuned award-winning cars, alongside locally-modified vehicles,” shared Yap.
Specially-imported show-stoppers from Japan plus tier-1 exhibitors and tuners are among other anchors of the show.
Also, for the first time in Malaysia, there will be the full display of Initial D cars. Meanwhile, Hot Wheels will showcase a Monster Truck, not forgetting a beautiful line-up of race queens from Japan and cosplayer singing performances by Rina-Hime and Hayate Konno.
