Just a month or two ago, it was extremely difficult to get ourselves protected against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) with the disposable 3-ply surgical face masks, so much so that “strong connection” was needed to equip our homes with just a box (50s) of masks. Due to this high demand and subsequent shortage, whatever left on the market was sold at a ceiling price of RM2 per piece. We’d be lucky if we managed to purchase it, because there were scores of scammers around assuring shipment from China that never arrived and the money lost to these fraudsters exceeded a million Ringgit, according to the local news.
We’re into phase three of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which began on 15th April, and it is tremendous relief that 3-ply disposable face masks are now more readily available to meet the demand of consumers. Also, the government has set a new ceiling price of RM1.50 per piece. Furthermore, the authorities have banned the export of face masks, greatly improving the situation.
The excellent news is that due to sufficient stock, retailers are selling their masks for as low as RM52.50 per pack of 50s. This is the cheapest price I can find, from the RM20 Eco shop.
Meanwhile, Mr DIY is selling these disposable surgical masks at RM59 per pack of 50s.
For shoppers who prefer the benefit of BOTH face masks and hand sanitiser home delivered, Caring Pharmacy has recently offered this service for the convenience of customers. Free delivery is provided for minimum RM150 spend.
