Cosplay Party 3.0 Competition at Ipoh Parade

Witnessing the largest assembly of cosplayers in Ipoh.

Fans of Anime Cosplay Games (ACG) were in for a treat over the weekend when Ipoh Parade shopping mall hosted a massive Cosplay Party 3.0 that drew a gathering of two hundred characters, including Miku from Project Diva, Raiden Shogun from Genshin Impact and Mask Sniper from High-Rise Invasion.

This third annual edition of Cosplay Party, which was part of the larger 6-day Haru Matsuri event, attracted 56 participants in the Cosplay Party 3.0 Competition. There were three rounds to the contest, beginning with a runway challenge, followed by a mall tour to meet and greet shoppers, and wrapping up with a talent show.

Points were given for each round; based on their resemblance to the original character, their assumed identities while interacting with the public, and lastly, in the 3-minute talent show. As the final round scored the highest marks, contestants put their best foot forward.

It was indeed a tough call for the judges, AJ Law Obdam who came as Gorou from Genshin Impact, Victoria Wey as Yang Yuhuan from Honor of Kings, plus Momo Rex as Isami Aldini from Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma.

Brothers Syed Hamizan bin Syad Sharuddin (aka Paradox Coser), 24, and Syed Farhan (aka Kohaku), 22, from Perak snagged the Champion and First Runner-Up titles respectively, taking home a total of RM2,500 worth of cash and prizes. The former presented himself as a convincing Fire 1 from Tomica Hero: Rescue Fire while the latter silenced the crowd as the intimidating Wanda Maximoff from Marvel’s The Avengers.

Meanwhile, the Second Runner-Up title went to a shy and reticent schoolgirl named Komi Shouko from the series Komi Can’t Communicate, played by Chan Yew Chyi (aka JR) who walked away with RM500 worth of cash and prizes. What an epic conclusion it was for Haru Matsuri, with the cosplay competition itself taking a lengthy 7.5 hours to wrap up.
