Glamsy Halloween: Makeup & Nail Competition
It was a “Night of the Living Dead” at the ballroom of M Roof Hotel in Ipoh last evening when students of SUB International Beauty School flexed their creativity, talent and skills in the Glamsy Halloween makeup and nail competition.
The occasion of Halloween is the beauty school’s annual event that offered students the opportunity and freedom of expression to apply what they had learned at school. Although the general theme is Halloween, the sub-themes change year by year to give the event novelty.
During this “practical” session, the students got to compete among themselves as a confidence booster, even if they didn’t win. At this Ipoh event, there were a total of 26 contestants who participated in the makeup and nail competition. Besides the nail category, there were three makeup themes, namely Skeleton, Cosplay and Carnival/Zombie.
On the panel of judges were:
Ms. May Goh
Fellow of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (FAIADR) & Panel of Adjudicators for Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC)
Datin Irene
Deputy Chairperson of Team Keris Berhad
Dr. Yvonne Chuah
Social Media Manager of Klinik De Era
Dato’ Yen Foo
Founder of Hair Max Plus Sdn.Bhd
Ms. Maggie Ong
Honorary Treasurer General of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH)
Mr. Alan Teh Pek Ling, AMP, PJK, Hon. FFIP
Business Development Supervisor Sin Chew Daily
Mr. Vincenns Lim
Managing Director and Founder of Goldfields Concepts Sdn.Bhd.
Mr. Ian Ong
Champion of Halloween Competition 2021
This competition was exceedingly stiff and the judges certainly had a difficult time deciding on the entrants who should advance to the next round. In the end, there could only be a champion each for the makeup and nail competition. Bagging the top prize for makeup was Chia Mei Yan with her entry Suicide Clown in the Cosplay category, while Ng Hui Qiong emerged first in the nail competition. Her bells inevitably drew the attention of everyone. Besides the main prizes, the subcategories were Most Creative, Best Costume and Most Popular.
What was different from the previous Halloween events by SUB International Beauty School was that Glamsy Halloween saw the Charismatic Award being bestowed upon four ladies: Dato’ Yen Foo, Charlene Mok, May Goh and Sylvia Ng.
The audience was undeniably included in this interesting programme, apart from having an inspiring evening witnessing the skilful creations of the students. Eight attendees were awarded Best Dressed, as voted by the audience. What a surprise it was for those selected! Additionally, there were generous prizes given away via lucky draws, too.
After the pandemic, this annual Halloween event by SUB International Beauty School was back with more glam, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the staunch support of all parties involved. While Klinik De Era was the main sponsor, the other sponsors included OxWhile, Shimono, K Box Karaoke, M Boutique Hotel, Lost World of Tambun, HairMax+, Swan Boutique, CM Motorsports, Palm Tree Atrium Villa, MyVue, Micalabel Enterprise, and One2Image.
