CNY Celebrations & Fireworks Display @ Station 18
I got to know of this Chinese New Year event at the last minute. I don’t usually go over to the Pengkalan side of Ipoh, you see. This event was sponsored by Keris Properties, a leading property development company in Ipoh. This is the company that brought forward-thinking architectural designs to Ipoh. This event wasn’t just held to celebrate Chinese New Year 2011, but also an angpow giving ceremony to 60 eligible old folks who live in and around the area.
Y.B. Dato’ Hamidah bt. Osman, PJK, Chairperson (Senior EXCO) of the Industry, Investment, Housing, Entrepreneur Development, Tourism and Women Affairs (Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Industri, Pelaburan, Pembangunan Usahawan, Pelancongan dan Hal Ehwal Wanita) and Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Roshidi Hashim graced the occasion along with local political and community leaders and Keris Properties (Team Keris Berhad) Group Executive Chairman Dato’ Lee Seng Hee and his staff.
Choy Sun, the God of Prosperity, made an appearance too, much to the delight of all Chinese present. It’s not every day that one gets to take photos with the God of Prosperity or receive “gold” (mandarin oranges) from him! Oh yes, the 1Malaysia mobile clinic was there providing free blood pressure reading and eye checks courtesy of Kementerian Kesihatan (Health Ministry) with a team of doctors and staff from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (Ipoh General Hospital).
The event started a little later than scheduled, kicking off with a speech from a representative from Keris Properties, followed by Y.B. Dato’ Hamidah bt. Osman. Both touched on the development of Station 18 that brought plenty of job and business opportunities to the locals. And of course, we are all excitedly waiting for the completion and launching of AEON Jusco Station 18 that is scheduled to complete in 14 months’ time. It’s said to be the largest in Malaysia. Nope, not Ipoh, not Perak, but Malaysia!
I didn’t stay long enough for the angpow giving ceremony or even for the free food. I also didn’t wait for the fireworks display. I didn’t bring along a tripod for shooting fireworks, you see. Anyway, I had to continue with my Chinese New Year shopping!
