It’s going to be the Lunar New Year in the blink of an eye! If you are celebrating the auspicious season in Ipoh, you are in luck as I am revealing a number of menus to help you to better decide where to host your Chinese New Year reunion dinner!
All four F&B outlets at Ipoh’s Kinta Riverfront Hotel have lined up promotions for guests during this season. Let’s begin…..
Palong Coffee House
This year, the trend for reunion dinners seems to be buffet rather than course dinners.
This is good for smaller families, and those who prefer to have more choices rather than be limited to the eight or nine courses.
At the Halal-certified Palong Coffee House, there will be 28 dishes from appetisers to desserts, including traditional Chinese dishes such as the exquisite Kam Heong Prawns and Deep Fried Siakap with Soy Sauce.
Its Chinese New Year buffet starts from 15th to 17th Feb, with reunion buffet dinner on 15th Feb. Reservation for reunion dinner is already open with Early Bird rate of RM50 (adult) and RM30 (child / senior), less RM5 from usual price. Be prompt as Early Bird promotion ends on 10th Feb.
Meanwhile, on 16th and 17th Feb, Palong Coffee House is introducing Buffet Hi-Tea and Buffet Dinner.
About thirty varieties of items are on the menu. You can browse through these photos, which are a mixture from Palong’s Chinese New Year Buffet Hi-Tea, Buffet Dinner and Reunion Dinner.

Shinjuku Japanese Cuisine
Over at Shinjuku Japanese Cuisine, a pork-free restaurant on the ground floor of Kinta Riverfront Hotel, a special menu is being introduced during Chinese New Year, from 10th Feb to 4th March.
This selection of items include two Japanese-style Yee Sang: Salmon Yee Sang and Salmon & Abalone Yee Sang, priced from RM78 to RM198. Another highlight is the Ootoro Sashimi. Look at its super fresh slices of Blue Fin Tuna Belly Sashimi. This dish is priced at RM290 nett.
Other limited-time dishes include Zuwai Kani Mentaiyaki (mini crab with mentaiyaki sauce), Chutoro Tataki (tuna belly with miso sauce), Tara Tempura (codfish tempura), Matsusaka A5 Wagyu (premium Matsusaka beef) and Asari Butter Yaki (clam with butter yaki sauce).
Also shown here is Taraba Gani, a dish with Hokkaido King Crab, and its three different, yet equally flavoursome cooking methods. The three cooking methods are fried rice, cheese grilled, and steam boat. Which is your preferred style of cooking, or rather, eating?
Hokkaido King Crab is priced at RM420 nett per kg. Recommended size is 1.8 to 2.5kg, because of the thick, weighty crab shell.
Zui Xin Lao Seafood Restaurant
At Zui Xin Lao, a pork-free eatery, there are three dinner sets prepared for Chinese New Year, priced at RM799 nett, RM998 nett and RM1188 nett per table for ten. These mouth-watering nine-course dinners come with a complimentary bottle of red wine.
Highly recommended by Chef Chong Chee Yee is the House Special Roasted Chicken from the RM1188 nett menu. This chicken is only 100 days old, said to be the best time to be cooked as that is when it’s juiciest.
Reservation at Zui Xin Lao for these Chinese New Year menus, which are also good for Year-End Appreciation Dinners, has started from now until 2nd March.
Moon River Bar & Grill
Last but not least, is Moon River Bar & Grill. For this Chinese New Year, they will be running a promotion on beverages, from 30th Jan to 30th March (2 months).
This makes a great place to hang out after a scrumptious meal at any of the above-mentioned outlets, for a nightcap with family and friends over good music. No reservation required.
Are you salivating already? I bet you are! A savoury meal is only a phone call away, no matter your budget, or cuisine preference, whether traditional Chinese, Western, Japanese or fusion.
