Blood Donation Drive & Organ Pledge Campaign
In conjunction with International Women’s Day (IWD), which is observed globally on 8th March, Persatuan Keturunan Kwong Siew Perak (Bahagian Wanita) and Persatuan Penganut Ibu Naga Perak are jointly organising a blood donation drive & organ pledge campaign in Ipoh.
Regular blood donors, as well as those who would like to donate for the first time, are highly encouraged to make their way to the following location on the date and time as stated below:
Date: 12th March 2023 (Sunday)
Venue: AEON Mall Station 18 (Ground Floor), Ipoh
Time: 11am until 4pm
Opening ceremony: 11.30am
It is noted that organ donation can be pledged via MySejahtera mobile application. So, those interested to pledge their organs but have yet to do so may seek assistance from one of the crew members during the drive.
The first campaign was held some four years ago in 2019. This year’s activity, which is their second, is supported by the following non-governmental organisations and associations:
Persatuan Yew Min Perak
Perak Toong Onn Woi Koon
Wooi Ning Koong Wooi Perak

The organisers are targeting a collection of 100 pints of blood from this campaign, which will be handed over to the Blood Bank of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) Ipoh. This replenishment of blood inventory at the blood bank is in anticipation of a shortage that happens every month of Ramadan, when Muslim friends are fasting and cannot donate blood.
To encourage blood donors to come forward, each donor will receive a goodie bag from the organisers. Sponsors for the event include Papan Memorial, Kin Loong, JT organic and Diabetic Food, AIA, Theme Good, Fatimas, and Shake & Bake Café,
Meanwhile, Cindy Chow, in her capacity as Vice President of Persatuan Penganut Ibu Naga Perak and also President of Persatuan Keturunan Kwong Siew Perak (Bahagian Wanita) said, “It is a known fact that one pint of blood can save three lives. Let’s roll up our sleeves and give back to the community by donating blood. We will also assist anyone with pledging their organ, by guiding them through the process on MySejahtera.”
Fact:
Blood is needed to treat accident victims, patients undergoing major operations, and those battling cancer or blood diseases like thalassemia, among other reasons. A shortage in blood inventory will cause delays in treating patients during critical moments, resulting in unnecessary loss of lives.
Do you know that donating blood not only helps someone in need but also offers various health benefits to the donors? Regular blood donation is linked to a reduction in cardiovascular risks, such as lowering blood pressure. Each adult human has ten pints of blood. Donating blood reduces one pint. The donation of blood lowers hemoglobin, which directly brings down the viscosity of the blood. High blood viscosity has been associated with the formation of blood clots, leading to heart attacks and strokes.
