Beyond Dim Sum in this Dim Sum Garden
The former Kao Lee Dim Sum Restaurant in Ipoh Garden has been taken over since the beginning of this year by a chain of dim sum restaurants named Dim Sum Yuen, or “Dim Sum Garden”.
Initially, I thought Dim Sum Yuen only has dim sum on its menu but when I was informed that another popular item served is its Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken, I decided to have my lunch there.
While its Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken is a signature item on the menu, it is only one of three meat preparations. The other two are roasted and barbecued. So, the varieties include soy sauce chicken, roasted duck, roasted pork and barbecue pork.
Rice sets come in a single choice of meat, double and even triple mixed meat.
Diners can also order meat platters to go with bowls of rice, whether a whole bird of chicken or duck, or half/quarter of it. As for pork, it comes in Large, Medium or Small servings.
Dim Sum Yuen, as its name suggests, has a wide variety of dim sum choices, from the classic range to modern dim sum. I ordered from the Modern Dim Sum menu and its Bun Series.
By the way, those who opt for takeaway have to pay an additional 10 sen for dim sum and 30 sen for rice packs. Waiting time is 7 to 10 minutes.
Oh, before I forget, Hong Kong Milk Tea is currently on promotion at Dim Sum Yuen Ipoh. It is only RM1 per cup for dine-in customers, from Mondays to Saturdays, 3pm to 10pm. I was there at 1pm and missed this promotion. Need to go again lah.
