5G Wireless Connection Now in Ipoh
Tech-savvy Ipohites will be delighted for the chance to be early adopters of the fifth-generation wireless connection technology in the city, through Yes 5G, provided by YTL Communications Sdn. Bhd.
This was following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the company and the Ipoh City Council (MBI), represented by the Chief Executive Officer of YTL Communications Sdn. Bhd. Mr Lee Wing Kui and Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud, respectively. This propels Ipoh as one of the cities with the widest 5G coverage in the country.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad who witnessed the signing on Thursday, 27th Oct 2022, said that Perak is expected to have 80% of the state with a stable 5G network coverage by the year 2024. “Although we are focusing on Ipoh City right now, we will gradually expand the coverage to other districts, including Manjung, Kuala Kangsar and Taiping, particularly new industrial growth areas,” he said.
According to the Mayor, there are currently 37 5G network sites installed in Ipoh, with 106 more expected to be established by the end of 2022, a result of the hard work of the Greater Ipoh 5G Taskforce Committee.
“We hope this MoU as well as assistance by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) will accelerate the coverage of the 5G network in Ipoh City, while simultaneously fulfils the national and global agenda towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Let’s not forget the national agenda in making Malaysia a Smart Nation, and Perak, Smart State.
“At this point, the 5G network coverage is fairly stable. We have reached the average national 5G speed of 620 Megabytes/Second, sometimes even hitting 1 Gigabyte/Second,” he shared.
ETA: U Mobile 5G services will be available in Ipoh beginning 3rd Nov 2022, within DNB coverage areas.
