To celebrate National Day which falls on 31st August, some 2000 Jalur Gemilang Malaysian flags have been raised along the main streets of Ipoh by the City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh). Additionally, another 500 flags were distributed to business premises to be installed.
Said Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, about 6000 notices have been sent to business owners to install the flag at their premises to enliven the Merdeka spirit in the city.
At the flag raising ceremony yesterday, Dato’ Rumaizi reminded Ipohites to only fly new flags, as he noted that some of those displayed are faded or torn, or have been installed at unsuitable spots. “Jalur Gemilang should be respected as it is Malaysia’s national symbol,” he added.
As part of the National Day celebration, Ipohites can enjoy a rebate on their traffic compound between 30% to 50%, until 31st August, 2020.
This Merdeka celebration in Ipoh is on-going until Malaysia Day, which is observed on 16th September annually.
