55th Ipoh Car-Free Day & E-Waste Collection Campaign
It’s Ipoh Car-Free Day today. This morning’s 55th edition of the event attracted some 2,000 visitors who were able to enjoy part of the city without vehicles on the road. With the slogan “Cleaner, Greener and Smarter Lifestyle”, the monthly Ipoh Car-Free Day programme aims to increase awareness among citizens on the importance of environmental care to become a community that practises a green and low-carbon lifestyle.
In line with September’s theme of “Celebration Of Malaysia at Ipoh Car-Free Day”, a host of activities were lined up this morning, some of which were participated by Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud. He was accompanied by Encik Megat Azman bin Megat Mokhtar from Persatuan Kesihatan Environmen Malaysia (MAEH), Ipoh City Councillors Richard Ng and Albert Ho as well as Tuan Haji Zainal bin Abdul Hamid, Ipoh City Council Director of City Planning.
Information booths were also set up by the National Anti-Drugs Agency, National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), and 3R campaign to cultivate the habit of Reducing, Reusing & Recycling. The highlight of the event was the launch gimmick for World Environmental Health Day Celebration and the prize presentation for Premises Cleanliness Competition.
The Ipoh Car-Free Day programme is held every month in an attempt to meet the Vision of Ipoh City Council toward a Low Carbon City by 2030.
For those who wish to discard their e-waste, such as electrical and electronic products that are no longer being used, do take note that there are five E-Waste Collection Locations around Ipoh, every third weekend (Sat & Sun) of the month until 30th November 2022. These collection centres are open from 8am until 1pm.

3. Dewan Komuniti Pasir Pinji, Parlimen Ipoh Timur

This 6-month-long campaign, which began on 21st May 2022 in conjunction with National Environment Day, aims to collect a total of 100 metric tonnes of e-waste by the end of the period in November 2022. So far, 85 metric tonnes have been collected.
October dates are 15th and 16th of the month. E-waste that can be sold for cash includes laptops, computers, mobile phones, refrigerators, air-conditioners and washing machines.
