3 Miss Malaysia Tourism Crowned In One Night
“Set your goal, and just go for it. Do your best and God will do the rest.” These were the words of wisdom shared by Phoebe Ong Yi Huui, 25, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, following her crowning as Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022 in Ipoh, Perak, last night.
It was indeed a night of Glitz & Glamour at the grand gala dinner and final coronation of Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant 2022 at the Grand Ballroom of MH Hotel Ipoh. The prestigious pageant saw 16 finalists from 9 states vie for not one, not two but THREE major titles, namely: Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022, Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2022, and Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2022.
Besides Phoebe Ong, the new Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022, two other Queens were crowned on the same stage. They were Anita Mae Loh Swee Ying, 22, from Penang as Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2022, and Ellen Rachel, 21, from Sabah, as Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2022.
As a unique pageant that goes beyond beauty, the primary objective of Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant is the promotion of tourism, culture and friendship. These beauty queens will now represent Malaysia in their respective World Finals, acting as the country’s tourism ambassadresses to promote tourism (especially in line with the #TravelPerakLah campaign) and culture to fellow delegates and fans of the pageants from around the world.
Phoebe Ong as Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022 will advance to the Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final which will be hosted at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak on 25th Nov 2022. She will compete against more than fifty Miss Tourism 2022 from around the world to win the coveted international title.
Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant 2022 is franchised by D’Touch International Sdn. Bhd. who had appointed Adonia Media Sdn. Bhd. as the Exclusive National Final Organiser. This was the first time that a national beauty pageant was hosted in Perak. Receiving full support and sponsorship from Tourism Perak and Perak corporations, Adonia Media Sdn. Bhd. has received the green light from Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, founder and President of D’Touch International, to host the pageant again next year.
Besides the coronation of the three beauty queens, there were nine subsidiary titles:
1. Miss Artisan Bakery (adopted by Shake & Bake Café, the exclusive main sponsor) — Phoebe Ong Yi Huui
2. Miss Friendship (adopted by Enjoy Restaurant) — Mabel Lee
3. Miss Charity Queen (adopted by Car Mobile Hair Salon) — Hannah Windsor
4. Best in Talent (adopted by Estee Pook Academy) — Phoebe Ong Yi Huui
5. Miss Crowning Glory (adopted by CHK Hair Academy) — Ellen Rachel
6. Miss Charm (adopted by Pusat Kecantikan Flori Beaute) — Phoebe Ong Yi Huui
7. Miss Energetic (adopted by CL Dance Academy) — Elaine Cheah Ee Lynn
8. Miss Popularity (adopted by Cititel Express Ipoh) — Wong Cindy
9. Miss Photogenic (adopted by MH Hotel Ipoh) — Anita Mae Loh Swee Ying
These 16 finalists arrived in Ipoh on 16th September and had been involved in a flurry of activity, including exploring Perak and discovering the state’s advantages as a preferred tourism destination, as well as visitation to sponsors, even as they prepared themselves for the pageant’s gala evening and coronation. One of the highlights of the schedule was the cultivation of charity by collaborating with Teduhan Kelana Perak (Night Shelter for the Homeless) to distribute meal packs to the homeless community.
Teduhan Kelana Perak, as beneficiary of Miss Malaysia Tourism Pageant 2022, received a donation of RM5,000 from the organiser, Adonia Media Sdn. Bhd.
The competition was intense among the finalists, with three main titles at stake. The distinguished panel of judges had a tough time with the selection, as points were given to the finalists based not only on their looks but also on their poise, intellect, talent, and confidence level. Yet, at the end of the gruelling competition, the friendship forged is to be cherished for a lifetime, which is the heart and soul of the pageant.
