2014 Perak I.T. Fair
The final IT fair for the year opened in a timely manner as it coincides with the school holidays. Launched this morning by guest-of-honour Dato’ Thong Fah Chong, he cautioned the public to digest and evaluate news that we read on the internet as there are too much falsehood and scams around.
Dato’ Thong said, “I am sure that we are intelligent enough to separate the truth from the lies. Also, do not divulge your bank details too easily over the internet as our account could be hacked and money withdrawn from our bank account without authorisation.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of Perak Computer & Digital Association Kevin Chang called upon the government to subsidise those who have successfully created an online store because Malaysians should also get a piece of the huge e-commerce pie. In 2012, global online transactions amounted to US$1 trillion and in 2013, it rose to US$1,250,000,000,000.
According to Kevin, “At this moment, most SMEs are not taking advantage of the internet to sell their products and services because of lack of knowledge and capital. If there is an incentive from the government, more enterprises would take the step to venture into cyberspace. The Perak Computer & Digital Association is ready to work with the government to assist SMEs to get online.”
Compared to all the previous IT Fairs, this one has two distinctions. One is the GST booth where corporations that meet the government requirement can register themselves. The other is a BR1M counter, where the public can register for BR1M or get their BR1M particulars checked and updated. These two specially set-up booths are for the convenience of the public in conjunction with the fair.
For the first 1000 registered visitors to Perak IT Fair today, they are eligible to receive a RM5 cash rebate on their purchase from any vendor.
Out of the few IT fairs held in Ipoh throughout the year, the ones by Perak Computer & Digital Association (PCDA) are the most exciting not only because of the RM5 cash rebate, but also because of the lucky draws, Happy Hours where limited discounted items are on sale over the three days, Wheel of Fortune, and full refund on purchases for ten lucky buyers. Well, these are just a few surprises that I can remember at the top of my head.
