112th Malaysian Amateur Open Golf Championship 2014
One of Malaysia’s premier golf courses, the Royal Perak Golf Club, is currently hosting the 112th Malaysian Amateur Open Golf Championship. Played over four days beginning yesterday, a total of 107 golfers from 17 countries are in Ipoh for the tournament, organised by the Malaysian Golf Association.
This 112th edition of MAO is open to male golfers who are amateurs in accordance with the Rules of Amateur status issued by the R&A Rules Ltd. They have a maximum USGA Handicap Index of 7.1 (Club Handicap of 8 and below), current at the time of entry.
As this championship is included in the R&A World Ranking Events, some of the top amateur players are here to improve on their rankings, including Malaysia’s top amateur 20-year-old Gavin Kyle Green, who is ranked at world number 22.
Competed over 72 holes stroke play, the cut-off mark is after 36 holes where the leading half of the participants get to proceed to the third round.
The first player to score a hole-in-one in the 3rd or 4th round wins the prize of a Jaguar XF 2.0 worth RM398,888.
