Sangeet Kaur: Mrs Global Tourism 2023 & Birthday Double Celebration

Like most young girls, fitness enthusiast Sangeet Kaur Manjit Singh had dreamt of being a beauty queen… strutting her way through the hallway of her house in heels, with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders. For added effect, Sangeet also “stole” her mom’s lipstick and applied it on herself.

Those dreams of being a beauty queen took more than three decades to materialise. Following the pandemic, Sangeet finally plucked up enough courage to participate in her first-ever beauty pageant: the Mrs Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2023, and emerged as the winner.

As the Mrs Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2023, Sangeet automatically became a finalist representing Malaysia, in the Mrs Global Tourism 2023, competing with 17 other finalists from around the world. Sangeet’s crowning as Mrs Global Tourism 2023 on the night of 15th April 2023 was all the sweeter, as she celebrated her 41st birthday at the stroke of midnight, on 16th April.

Moreover, Sangeet clad in Ngepan Iban warrior outfit was selected as first runner-up for Best National Costume at the pageant. What a virtual celebration it was for Sangeet who was in the host city of Nong Khai in Thailand, without the presence of her family.

While Sangeet attributes her success to her strong family support system, friends and family attested that Sangeet is someone who was born with the qualities that make her a ‘queen’. First and foremost would be her discipline – putting her mind into something and seeing it through till the end.

The pandemic has probably been a positive period for Sangeet, who took up Crossfit during the lengthy lockdown. She said, “Friends have always encouraged me to participate in beauty pageants but I had always thought that I wasn’t prepared. Taking up Crossfit, following the pandemic, I suddenly thought that this will be the year for me. I am more prepared than ever, both physically and mentally. It helps that my husband, Dr Narinderjit Singh, is ever supportive.” Sangeet also credits their two boys, aged 11 and 14, as her biggest cheerleaders.

She added, “Family is definitely top priority, as a wife and mother. However, self-love is important. Don’t let marriage or motherhood stop us from pursuing our dreams. Take the first step towards your goal, and let the momentum carry you forward.”

An Education Adviser at Asia Pacific University (APU), Sangeet is proudly the first Malaysian to be crowned Mrs Global Tourism 2023. Back in her hometown of Ipoh, Dr Narinderjit threw a private homecoming-cum-birthday bash for the Queen, attended by family and some of the couple’s closest friends.

It was an evening of great camaraderie, good food, and lively dance at this triple celebration, as Dr Narinderjit has recently been promoted to Associate Professor at INTI International University.
