The Hideout BJ Cafe & Event Space: One of Bukit Jelutong’s Best-Kept Secrets
Sometimes, the places worth finding are not the easiest to locate. That was exactly the experience when Facebook Live host Mohd Nizril, along with Zhavis Chong, visited The Hideout BJ Cafe & Event Space for lunch over the weekend.
Located within D’Vida Business Centre in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, Selangor, the café is somewhat tucked away from the main roads. For those visiting for the first time, the beautiful Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque serves as a helpful landmark.

The moment Nizril and Zhavis walked through the doors, any challenge in finding the place immediately became irrelevant. A soothing atmosphere, gentle background music, and the inviting aroma of freshly prepared food set the tone for a memorable dining experience.
The Hideout BJ Cafe & Event Space was welcoming from the outset, offering a sense of comfort that encourages guests to settle in.
Beyond a Neighbourhood Café
The Hideout BJ Cafe first opened its doors in 2015 as a traditional café serving the local Bukit Jelutong community.
A significant transformation took place in November 2024 when the business changed ownership. Rather than simply refreshing the menu, the new management introduced a broader vision for the establishment.
Today, The Hideout BJ Cafe & Event Space operates around a simple yet meaningful philosophy: “Beyond Café, It’s Your Space.”
One of the first things guests notice about The Hideout BJ Cafe is its cosy, laid-back charm. While most eateries focus on quick table turnover, The Hideout BJ Cafe takes a different approach. Guests are encouraged to stay, converse and enjoy the space without feeling pressured to leave after finishing their meals.
This philosophy has helped the venue evolve into a popular gathering place for a wide variety of occasions. Family reunions, corporate meetings, workshops, celebrations and community events all find a natural home here.
The café’s layout and facilities are designed to accommodate both small and large groups, making it a versatile venue for people seeking something more personal than a conventional event hall.

Dining with Quality
The Hideout BJ Cafe takes pride in maintaining a strictly halal dining environment.
No pork or alcohol is served, and the café closes during Friday prayers as a mark of respect for Muslim practices. The management is in the midst of obtaining JAKIM halal certification, reinforcing its commitment to providing customers with peace of mind.

Equally important is the team’s dedication to food quality. Leading the kitchen is Syrian-born Head Chef Moayad, who oversees every aspect of food preparation. Freshness is a key priority, with ingredients sourced multiple times a week to ensure that meats and vegetables arrive in excellent condition.
The kitchen avoids preservatives and MSG, while every dish is prepared in-house. Nothing is outsourced, allowing the team to maintain complete control over quality and consistency.
Supporting this commitment is a fully equipped modern kitchen capable of producing a wide-ranging fusion menu to exacting standards.
A Fusion Menu for Every Craving
Food is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions at The Hideout BJ Cafe.
The menu draws inspiration from multiple culinary traditions, bringing together Western classics, Italian favourites, Asian dishes and beloved Malaysian flavours.
Guests can enjoy everything from pizza and pasta to authentic Malay specialities such as asam pedas, masak lemak, satay, daging salai and seafood dishes featuring ikan pari and ikan merah.
The diverse offering ensures that families and groups with different tastes can all find something appealing.
Among the café’s most popular dishes are Hideout Butter Chicken, Hideout Chicken Chop, Tempura Buttermilk Fettuccine, Carbonara Chicken, Hideout Fish & Chips, Hideout Char Kuey Teow (Wet), Fried Kuey Teow (Dry), Beef Fried Rice, Chicken Parmigiana and the Hideout Classic Burger.

For light bites, favourites include Keropok Lekor, Sweet Potato Fries and French Fries served with a variety of dips.
Signature Dishes To Savour
During their visit, both Nizril and Zhavis sampled several dishes that showcased the kitchen’s capabilities.
Zhavis was particularly impressed by the Wagyu Fried Rice. Served with keropok on the side, the dish struck an excellent balance in texture. The rice was fluffy without being dry and flavourful without being oily. Tender pieces of wagyu beef added richness to every bite, creating a satisfying meal.

Meanwhile, Nizril opted for the Hideout Char Kuey Teow (Wet), commonly known among Chinese diners as “wat tan hor”.
The generous serving arrived topped with large, fresh prawns and coated in a silky gravy. Achieving the correct consistency for this style of dish is often challenging, but the chef managed it exceptionally well. The result was a harmonious combination of noodles, seafood and savoury sauce that delivered on both flavour and texture.

Another highlight was the Hideout Butter Chicken. Although butter chicken can be found on many restaurant menus, this version stood out thanks to its execution. According to Nizril, the chicken was beautifully crisp on the outside while remaining moist and tender within, creating an enjoyable contrast that elevated the dish beyond the ordinary.
The Wagyu Pizza also left a strong impression. Made fresh to order, it featured generous chunks of premium wagyu beef patty paired with Italian milk cheese and Mutti tomato sauce, which is made with 100% sun-ripened Italian tomatoes. Every component was carefully selected, resulting in a pizza rich in flavour.
