Press Conference: ESL One Genting 2018

Exciting things are always happening at Resorts World Genting (RWG) and this week, it is the 2nd annual ESL One Genting 2018, a professional esports tournament, a collaboration between RWG, as venue sponsor, and ESL.

For 6 days from 23rd to 28th Jan, thousands of fans are going to watch the best of Dota 2 action at ESL One Genting 2018, which marks the third official Minor tournament of the year. ESL One Genting 2018 will see the top 16 Dota 2 teams battling over a prize pool of USD400,000 AND clinch 400 coveted Qualifying Points that are collected to determine the eight direct invites to The international 2018.

For your information, the first edition ESL One Genting 2017 was the winner of the best esports event of the year at Spia Asia (Asia’s Sports Industry Awards and Conference). This year, it promises to be bigger and more eventful.

Yours truly was invited to RWG for the press conference of ESL One Genting 2018, where Frank Sliwka (Chief Operating Officer at ESL Asia) and Kevin Tann (Vice President of Promotions & Entertainment) were on hand to share their vision for ESL One Genting, and to field questions from the press not only regarding the tournament but on esports in general as well.

To enliven the press conference, Dota 2 cosplayers graced the event, bringing to life the fantastic champions of Dota 2.

Last year, more than 5,000 fans attended ESL One Genting 2017, whereas over 1.4 million viewers consumed around 4.5 million hours of content online. Digital Chaos eventually took home the ESL One championship which came with USD125,000 prize share. Who will take home the trophy in 2018? Your guess is as good as mine!

With such buzz, do take note that the ESL One Genting 2018 broadcast team features an exciting team of notable faces from the world of esports. Bringing to fans Dota 2 live action include Eri Newman, Paul ‘Redeye’ Chaloner, Jacob ‘SirActionSlacks’ Kanner, Owen ‘Odpixel’ Davis and Austin ‘Capitalist’ Walsh.
