Members of the Perak Classic Car Club came together to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a most meaningful way, by organising a charity ride around Ipoh Old Town to raise funds for Sekolah Semangat Maju.
Charging a nominal fee of just RM5 per passenger, all collections are channelled to the school, for children aged 6 to 17, who are intellectually challenged.
Also lending support to the cause was Hovid Berhad, contributing twenty hampers of Ho Yan Hor tea for sale with proceeds going to the Fund.
A club member brought out his prized collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia. It was one of those rare occasions. The items were not for sale, unfortunately!
The charity drive also helped to create awareness for the school’s kindergarten, Taska Semangat Maju, established in 2014 to provide Early Intervention Programme (EIP) as well as day care service for intellectually challenged children from six months to four years old.
Perak Classic Car Club has about forty members to date. Yesterday’s charity drive saw the participation of some thirty vehicles, a huge turnout as members showed their overwhelming support for a worthy case.
The large gathering of classic cars certainly drew curious onlookers to that section of Ipoh Old Town, where the Evolution wall mural is.
Sekolah Semangat Maju is located at Lot 61106, Lorong Tawas 29, Kampung Tawas, 30010 Ipoh. There are currently about a hundred students who are provided with special education. Hostel facilities are offered to students, too.
Well-wishers who would like to donate to the fund may contact the school’s chairperson, Mr. Su, at +6012-5123457. Thanks in advance.
