Chinese Mask Changing Performance (Face Changing)
One of the best things about the lunar new year celebrations, at least to me, is the opportunity to catch a Chinese mask changing performance.
I can watch such shows numerous times and not get bored with them.
This Chinese New Year, to my delight, I managed to catch the mask changing performance at AEON Jusco Kinta City
Needless to say, I enjoyed myself very much, and I could tell, so did the other shoppers.
It was executed flawlessly and until today, I must admit that I have absolutely no idea how the art is performed.
I didn’t shoot a video but here are some photos for you to appreciate.

I think the masks are made of cloth and easily taken off… LOL.. but what do I know… it is also a mystery to me.. some mask changing performers are very good… and fast… some a little big draggy and slow…have seen both…
I have watched lion and dragon dances but never got to see mask changing. It seems to be very interesting and thrilling.
One thing in recent time that intrigue me is that more and more people are going towards the career of mask changing but there’s not enough promotion to introduce these people. There’s a handful of really good masters of the art but aside from the usual road shows and opera shows, they don’t get much jobs and need to rely on other businesses to keep themselves going.
i love mask changing dancer too. I always fascinating with this kind of show. Long time never watch this kind of show in person. great event!
When I was a kid, I thought this performance is scary because I thought he’s no human being. But when I grow up, I found it’s not scary anymore. =)
watched these type of performance before.. so skillful the way they change it so fast

This is a good show for the whole family.
I never see the mask changing. Only catch this show in TV. the lastest is on Running Man movie. It really impress me. Hope can see it .
woah. the mask changing performance is one of my favorite. It was a real tradition that should be really transmitted from generation to generation.
I watch the mask changing performance before. Really amazed how they can do it so fast.
I always want to see a live mask changing performance. So bad is in Ipoh; I missed the fun. 🙁
I keep getting more and more about Chinese festive spirit. Good to see it as didnt know about it.
Ahhh, one of the dying arts. It’s uplifting sometimes, seeing people perform traditional arts that will inevitably fade out from time. I’ve always liked this kind of performance and will always love them.
The chinese mask change is a one of its kind performance. I never knew they had such a performance for the festive season. This is something new to me, and i think you should write about the history of the performances like how and when did it start.hehe
I always amaze by this Chinese mask changing performance, so want to know the speed technique 🙂
Face changing performers amazes me the most because of such abilities and skills! Must have took lots of training to even be this good.
