Northern Writers – Grand Finale
Page 1 Page 2
I have known about Northern Writers for a long time though never found time for it. Fortunately, a function took me to that part of Ipoh on Saturday so I decided to drop by. I was late, but luckily, they started late too. This was the grand finale, the final event to celebrate arts in a freestyle, informal way, in the long series of monthly Northern Writers meet-ups at Garden Villa, No. 5, Jalan Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah (Gopeng Road).
Video (below): Antares reading “Advanced Physics Lecture”
First to kick off the morning, after a short introduction by emcee Yusuf Martin, was Antares, formerly known as Kit Leee. Antares is someone that cannot be described with one word. He’s a poet, writer and musician, almost like an all-rounder artiste. He read three original poems: Bar Room Tart, Advanced Physics Lecture and How to be a True One. Watch my video above for his delivery of Advanced Physics Lecture.
Next up was a “band” who goes by the name, “Reboot the Roots”. This is a charity that works at promoting, through music, drama and poetry, the inclusion of the socially-excluded, be they former drug abusers, people living with HIV/AIDS, the underprivileged, stateless, etc. This is run by teams of facilitators in London and Kuala Lumpur and is funded by the Commonwealth Foundation. Check them out on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/rebootroots
