Announcement: Sharpened Word Literary Matinee (March 19)
The monthly Sharpened Word Literary Matinee is back for its sixth edition this coming Saturday on March 19.
During the third Saturday afternoon of every month, three or four writers are brought together to Sepaloh Arts Centre, Ipoh, to share with the audience their literary journey.
The objective is to celebrate the literary arts through a community event where writers can connect with their listeners.
The panellists could be amateur writers or illustrious authors in various media. Whatever their level of competency, everyone has a story to share, and there is usually a lesson to take away from another person’s experience.
The writers will first read from their work and then participate in a Q & A session on the writing process with the audience.
This month’s Sharpened Word will see four women writers sharing their work in conjunction with International Women’s Day, which is observed annually on March 8.
The writers are: Bernice Chauly, Dr. Nirmala Kasinathan, Angie Lee Xiao Fong, Melizarani T. Selva.
Bernice Chauly is a writer, poet and educator. She is the founder of “Readings”, a live literary platform in Kuala Lumpur since 2005. She is also Director of George Town Literary Festival.
Dr. Nirmala Kasinathan, born in Kuala Lumpur and raised in Ipoh, is a medical doctor with a passion for literary art. She self-published a fiction, Woven in Deception, some 2.5 years ago.
Angie Lee Xiao Fong is a novice writer and first runner-up in the International Youth Food Culture Contest 2015. This young Ipoh gal shows a strong flair for the creative arts.
Last but not least is Melizarani T. Selva, a spoken word poet, educator, journalist and author of ‘Taboo’.
As you can see, this edition of Sharpened Word will see diverse levels of experience among the writers, who have taken on different literary journeys and they definitely have a wealth of experience to share.
