Muslim-friendly Malaysia Chinese Fare @ Kaki Steamboat & Grill, Ipoh Night Market
Muslims who have a penchant for Malaysian Chinese cuisine, now have a new dining option in Kaki Steamboat & Grill, located at Malaysia’s largest night market, called Ipoh Night Market.
Opened in mid-July 2023, Kaki Steamboat & Grill is operated by Kelvin, who is a Chinese muallaf. Therefore, diners can be assured that every care is taken to ensure that the food served here meets stringent ‘Halal’ standards, while awaiting the approval and issuance of the Halal certificate. For now, the eatery’s status is ‘Muslim-friendly.’
As you probably already know from the name of this eatery, the highlight on the menu is the popular steamboat and grill. Three platter sizes are available: for one pax, two, and four. As for soup bases, there are two options: tom yum and chicken.
Now, you might be wondering what’s on the platter and whether it’s worth the price. For our 4-pax platter, we counted almost 20 different items, including prawns, sotong, various meat slices and fishball types, mushroom and egg.
Right now, Kaki Steamboat & Grill is offering an opening promotion on their steamboat & grill sets. For one pax, the price is RM19.90 (with RM5 soup base). For two pax, it’s RM39.90, and for four, it’s only RM78.90 (with RM10 soup base).
Diners can add on to the platter from the steamboat à la carte menu, for a separate charge.
Steamboat and grill is popular because this way of eating allows diners to sit around and chat while cooking the food over the stove. Furthermore, Kaki Steamboat & Grill offers an extensive budget-friendly à la carte menu with a mouth-watering array of, you got it, Chinese cuisine!
To put it simply, the menu categories include Snack Plates, Claypot, Fried Rice, Rice, and Noodles. For someone who is on his maiden voyage in the F&B realm, Kelvin’s Kaki Steamboat & Grill is pretty impressive, not only in its selection of food, but more importantly, in the flavours of the dishes, which are as authentic as one could get.
Kaki Steamboat & Grill offers a chill vibe, within the vibrant Ipoh Night Market, along Tasek Road (Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Utara). Busy as they are, especially on weekends, there is still ample parking, so that’s one headache that we don’t have to wrestle with. As you dine, you might even get serenaded by the live band that comes on, now and then, at the middle stage.
While Kaki Steamboat & Grill doesn’t sell drinks except for fresh coconuts, they have an arrangement with a neighbouring beverage operator. You can place your order at Kaki itself, and the drinks will be brought over. Seamless!
