Pasar Malam (Night Market) @ Taman SPPK

I went to the night market at Taman SPPK on Thursday night. I actually had two choices; Taman SPPK or Silibin. Well, I decided to visit Taman SPPK simply because I haven’t been there before. I should have chosen Silibin night market because unfortunately, these are the same vendors who trade at Taman Ipoh Jaya on Mondays, Medan Ipoh on Tuesdays and Stadium Perak on Wednesdays!

For those who are unfamiliar with Taman SPPK, this pasar malam is actually adjacent to the Taman Pengkalan Jaya wet market, off Jalan Pegoh. Coming from Ipoh town centre, go along Jalan Pasir Puteh and turn at your left to Taman Pengkalan Jaya.

Despite this being my first visit, I felt quite bored there mainly because I’ve seen the same vendors and their wares at other pasar malam locations in Ipoh already. I was expecting something new, something fresh. This night market is huge, though, and vendors have set up stalls all around the wet market and its surrounding shop houses.

Oh yeah, let me just mention that most of the vendors are Chinese and they cater to a primarily Chinese community. This is very different from the Taman Ipoh Jaya night market, which is truly a multi-racial night market.
