Pocket-friendly Premium Meats From The Grill of Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18, Ipoh
From being a foreman to becoming the owner of a Western grill warung, Abang Bard’s passion for cooking can be tasted in every flavourful bite at Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18. The unassuming facade of this warung can be taken for granted as “just” another street eatery if not for the wafting aroma of sizzling meat from the well-used grill. That was what caught our attention, stopping us in our tracks.
Started in 2019, it’s been slightly more than four years since Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18 was established. The journey from being a foreman in a kampung to running his own eatery was a long and challenging one, but as the saying goes, “Do what you love, and you will never work another day again.”
Serving an extensive smoked grill Western menu, tweaked to appease local palates, the menu is categorised in meat selections such as Lamb, Beef, Chicken, Duck, Fish, as well as Spaghetti, Soups, and Snacks. A speciality that should be mentioned separately is the Sotong Bakar, which is only available on selected days of the week.
While there is the à la carte menu, group diners can also enjoy set meals at a fixed price. The Combo Set, priced at RM60 is good for two pax. This set includes rib single, duck/chicken, beef tenderloin, 1 butter rice, 1 baked potato, 1 salad, 1 plain soup and 2 glasses of iced syrup drinks.
Meanwhile, the Family Set for four pax is priced at RM110. It consists of lamb cut, lamb rib double, duck, chicken, 4 butter rice or 4 baked potatoes, 4 plain soups, and 1 salad. A jug of Teh O Ais or Limau Ais is complimentary.
And then there is the Nasi Talam set at RM80, for three pax. On the platter is succulent lamb shank, chicken, duck, 3 butter rice, 3 baked potatoes, 3 plain soups, and 1 salad. It also comes with a complimentary jug of iced syrup.
For the generous portions that are being served, one will surely be surprised by the pocket-friendly prices of Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18. With al fresco dining under the night sky over juicy and tender meats from the grill of Abang Bard, while sipping a tall glass of colourful and refreshing mujito drink, without having to pay through the nose, really, one couldn’t ask for more.
Abang Bard also serves as the head cook at Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18, assisted by three of his four children. With a Malay owner, there should be no “was-was” for our Muslim friends. For those who find it inconvenient to head to this part of the town, Port Kambing Bakar Ipoh St.18 is also available on the Misi Rakyat food delivery app, the one app that offers menu prices without extra charges. Give them a try.
