Miss Perak Saree Queen 2013

This year’s Miss Perak Saree Queen was all the more meaningful as the pageant celebrated its 10th anniversary. The organising committee held a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Organised for the tenth year by Kinta Cultural & Tourism Association Perak, this year’s Miss Perak Saree Queen pageant raised RM10,000 for The Dementia Society Perak. Coincidentally, the Society launched its Daycare Centre along Jalan Foo Choong Nyit exactly a year ago.

The pageant proper kicked off with a line-up and welcome dance by the twelve contestants dressed in their best, with saree costumes sponsored by The Bombay Palace. The ladies, who hailed from as far as Sarawak self-introduced themselves before they were short-listed to five finalists.

While the scores were tabulated, guests were entertained with energetic dance performances by dancers from Susan Ting Dance Academy and Kavitha Chetty. Loh Carman, who choreographed the girls’ dance routine belted out a Mandarin oldie, and dhol performances by a bhangra troupe made the pageant truly 1 Malaysia.

Finally, after much excitement and anxiety, the Queen was crowned. 2012 Miss Perak Saree Queen, Shalini Muniandy, handed over the tiara to 23-year-old Vejeya Sivasubramani, final year advertising student and freelance designer. Second place went to Piravina Vijayakumaran, third place to Dr. Jasmin Nitin Saini, fourth place to Loginee Kularaja and fifth place, Lim Siaw Ngee. They received cash prizes, gift hampers and trophies.

There were also three subsidiary titles. Miss Charity went to Vejeya Sivasubramani, People’s Choice Award to Dr. Jasmin Nitin Saini and Miss Facebook to Piravina Vijayakumaran. Congratulations to all!
