MBI Strengthens Digital Communication and Media Competency

Towards Quality Portal And Social Media News Writing

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) organised a three-day Portal and Social Media News Writing Course from 12th to 14th November 2025, aimed at elevating the quality, governance and professionalism of digital news dissemination across the council’s official platforms.

Building Skills for Modern Digital Communication

A total of 23 officers and council members participated, representing departments including Management Services, Community Services, Treasury, Enforcement, Development Control, Parks & Landscape, Integrity, and the One-Stop Centre (OSC).

The initiative sought to enhance participants’ proficiency in news writing, digital content management, and strategic communication in line with evolving digital engagement needs. The programme placed emphasis on:

  • journalistic ethics and responsible news reporting
  • effective and concise writing techniques
  • audience-focused communication
  • integration of contemporary tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mobile Journalism (MOJO)

    Interactive Workshops and Practical Exposure

    Participants engaged in a series of hands-on workshops and simulations, including:

  • Basic News Writing Workshop
  • Writing Ethics and Legal Awareness
  • Media Conference and MOJO Simulation
  • Portal, Social Media and AI-Assisted Content Writing

    These sessions highlighted the importance of accuracy, speed, ethical reporting, and data-driven storytelling. The course also emphasised MBI’s responsibility in ensuring transparent, people-friendly, and timely communication that reflects current developments and community needs.

    Expert Training from Media Industry Professionals

    The course was facilitated by two seasoned media practitioners:

  • En. Saifullah bin Ahmad, Head of Bureau, Sinar Harian Perak
  • En. Mohamad Hafizi Mohd Said, Editor, Malaysia Gazette Perak

    Their industry experience provided participants with real-world perspectives on newsroom standards, media relations, and digital publication trends.

    The closing ceremony was officiated by Pn. Normala binti Latiff, Director of MBI Management Services, representing YBhg. Tuan Zamakhshari bin Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh.

    Through this initiative, MBI aims to strengthen its corporate communication framework, ensuring that the delivery of information to Ipoh residents is high-impact, fact-based and accessible across various digital and social media platforms.
