Majlis Program Kenali ASEAN 2011
Majlis Program Kenali ASEAN 2011, or simply put, Getting to Know ASEAN 2011, is an event organised by Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (Department of Information under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture).
I dropped by at the venue, Kinta City, last evening just to see what it’s all about. If you haven’t been clear what ASEAN (the Association of South-East Asian Nations) stands for, this is a good place to learn about ASEAN and what it means. The Department of Ministry has made it quite fun to learn and there is plenty of literature on ASEAN for free distribution.
There is also an opportunity to learn about culture in the various ASEAN countries. ASEAN was originally founded in 1967 with five member states only (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines) but has since grown to include Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. OK, I think I have all the countries covered.
The three-day event is activity-filled and many competitions are held from public speaking to colouring and jigsaw puzzle. There is even a Bintang Patriotik singing competition though I have no idea how this is connected to the theme…
