Launch of ETS Internal Wrapping to Promote Visit Perak Year 2024
In an effort to promote Visit Perak Year 2024, one north-bound rail service, the Electric Train Service (ETS), operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), has been internally wrapped with Perak attractions to captivate rail passengers and encourage them to consider Perak as their tourism destination. Perak is the first state in Malaysia to utilise this platform for its tourism campaign.
The event, which was hosted onboard the ETS from KL Sentral to Ipoh (ETS Platinum EP9178), was officiated by YB Tuan Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment & Corridor Development Committee, who represented YAB Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The inter-city ETS was selected as one of the many promotional avenues by the state government because this rail service receives an average of 11,000 passengers per day across the Northern, Central, and Southern regions of Peninsular Malaysia, with a daily service frequency of 32 trips. In 2022, 2.14 million passengers rode on the ETS to Perak. Among the busiest stations in the state were Ipoh (911,286 passengers), Taiping (290,024 passengers), and Batu Gajah (228,312 passengers).
The internal wrapping advertisement onboard the ETS highlights six unique segments of tourism in Perak, namely heritage, food, eco-tourism, entertainment, family-centric travel, and traditional handicrafts. Interesting graphics in vibrant colours with accompanying short texts are sure to capture the attention of passengers. Those who require further information can scan the relevant QR Code using their smartphones. A visibility reach of 200,000 people per month is expected from this initiative, which will continue for 16 months from October 2023 until January 2025.
As part of the launch programme, YB Loh also unveiled the Perak 2024 Calendar of Events (COE), which lists more than a hundred diverse tourism activities and events across the entire state. Copies of this new COE were distributed to ETS passengers who were onboard the same train bound for Butterworth.
Passengers on this special trip also had the opportunity to savour Perak’s specialities as Tourism Perak served special food and beverages that the state is well known for, such as Kuih Dangai, Rendang Tok, Kacang Buntong, Ipoh White Coffee, and HOVID health drinks.
Earlier, Tourism Perak introduced its new mascot for the Visit Perak Year 2024 tourism campaign. It is a tapir named KOPITA, derived from the abbreviated words of Kopi Tarik (pulled coffee), which is also a play on the word “Tapir.” KOPITA partners KOPIRO, the tourism mascot introduced in September 2018. KOPIRO is a wordplay of Kopi O + Tapir.
The efforts of the Perak State Government in generating interest in Visit Perak Year 2024 do not stop here, as various frameworks of programmes and activities have been listed at the district, state, and international levels with the involvement of multiple parties such as Local Authorities, non-governmental organisations, private sectors, and many other stakeholders to achieve the targeted domestic tourism arrivals of 8.0 million and international tourism arrivals of 350,000 for 2024.
On September 16, 2023, KTMB’s Komuter Train (KTM Komuter Utara) rail service from Ipoh to Butterworth then Padang Besar was extended to include Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, and Ipoh stations, with a total of 56 daily trips. In addition to the ETS internal wrapping, two of these Komuter coaches have been similarly wrapped internally. Advertising on this Komuter is expected to further boost tourist arrivals for Visit Perak Year 2024, with the tagline “Promising Perak”.
