Visit Perak Year 2024 Kicks Off
With a state tourism budget of RM24 million, the Perak state government is ready for Visit Perak Year 2024.
To kickstart the year-long tourism campaign, Perak tourism committee chairman YB Loh Sze Yee led his delegation from Tourism Perak Management Berhad and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (Perak Office) to welcome the first flight to Ipoh this morning.
Present as part of the delegation were Tourism Perak Chairman YB Dato’ Mohd Kamil Bin Dato’ Shafie and Chief Executive Officer Cik Nurmalis Musa. From MOTAC Perak was its Director Tuan Muhammad Aminuddin Bin Abdul Majid.
The Scoot flight with a capacity of 150 passengers from Singapore arrived this morning at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (Ipoh Airport). The passengers were surprised to be greeted with a welcome ceremony that included a cultural dance performance.
According to YB Loh, there are currently 120 events on the Perak Calendar of Events 2024, with more to be added over time. These events, whether they are of state-level, national, or even international standing, should draw tourists to the state and keep them interested during their travels here. One of the hashtags for Visit Perak Year 2024 is #PromisingPerak.
When addressing the long-standing concerns about the ‘Ipoh Airport,’ YB Loh stated that it is more realistic and logical to upgrade the existing Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, transforming it into a regional airport capable of accommodating flights with up to a 3-hour flight time.
As the Perak state government is working closely with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), the upgrade programme is expected to commence in the middle of the year, without disrupting existing flight operations. Right now, there are three daily flights to Ipoh, from Johor Bahru and Singapore. “There is an urgent need for the upgrade, but it will be business as usual,” he stressed.
In view of the rising infection of COVID-19, YB Loh said, “We are cautious of the virus but not overly concerned. We are vigilant of the situation and will act according to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.”
