Launch of Cura Si Manja Kini & Epilogue-writing Competition

Cura Si Manja Kini, a Malay novel, was launched yesterday at Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Perak in Ipoh. Authored by Puan Heidi Abdul Hadi and Mr. Peter Stanislaus Asirvatham, Cura Si Manja Kini follows a student’s journey as he navigates through two distinct eras to uncover the rich history of the Perak Sultanate.

According to Wikipedia, Cura Si Manjakini (Malay: Pedang Cura Si Manjakini, alternatively Mandakini or Mandangkini; Jawi: ڤدڠ چورا سي منجاکيني) is a sword mentioned in the Malay Annals as originally possessed by Sang Sapurba, the legendary ancestor of Malay kings.

The novel is jointly published by Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Ipoh (KPTM Ipoh) and Six Sense Creative.

Director of KPTM Ipoh, Puan Noor Laili Abdullah said, “As co-publishers, we would like to instil an interest within the younger generation to explore the history, culture, and traditions of Malaysia, in this instance, of the Perak Sultanate in particular.”

She added, “We have the expertise in extending this novel into different formats, including an animation, and at the same time, translating from Malay to English.”

Guest-of-honour Perak Tourism Association (PTA) President Datuk Hj. Mohd. Odzman Bin Abdul Kadir expressed excitement over the novel. He believed that the novel would serve as an encouragement to readers to learn history in a fun way.

Cura Si Manja Kini is unveiled

He said, “Cura Si Manja Kini will open the minds of readers to the rich history of the Perak Sultanate. This topic has a very wide scope. Hopefully, other institutes of higher learning will follow in the footsteps of KPTM Ipoh to initiate similar educational projects for the young.”

Gracing the event, coming all the way from Kuala Lumpur, was Datin Fauzian Ramly, adviser to the Cura Si Manja Kini novel project. She challenged students of the college’s game design faculty to transform the novel into a game.
