KT Pillai’s 60th Birthday Celebration: Sharing the Joy With Children of Vision Home

Popular multi-lingual professional DJ-emcee and now standup comedian, KT Pillai marked his 60th birthday milestone at Vision Home, a children’s home in Ipoh, following in the footsteps of his late father, V.N. Kathirgamer, who celebrated his 75th birthday at the home 22 years ago in the year 2000.

The 25 boys and girls aged from 5 to 18 years old had a delightful experience yesterday afternoon when KT Pillai and his family hosted a vegetarian meal served by Martin Caterers at the home, and arranged some fun and engaging games for them.

The children, some of whom are orphans while some others whose parents are unable to care for them, sportingly participated in the games. It had been a long time since they had visitors. In fact, this was the first major event for the children since the pandemic.

To add icing to the cake, each child also received an “angpow” (or red packet with cash enclosed), which signifies giving of blessings to the recipients.

Hosting his 60th birthday at Vision Home was KT Pillai’s way of giving back to the community, by sharing not only his own blessings, talent and time, but also his wealth of knowledge and experiences gained throughout six decades with his beneficiaries.

Also joining in the celebration were his wife Suzanne, mother Madam Leong and younger sister (also Madam Leong), his 95-year-old uncle Dato’ Rajasingam Thambipillay and his spouse Datin Thavamani, his siblings, in-laws and nephew.

At the gathering were also a handful of the birthday boy’s closest friends. After all, the actual VIPs for the event were the children. What a day to remember. May there be more to come.

Vision Home Ipoh is a non-profit children’s home for boys and girls established in 2000 in nearby First Garden before relocating to its current premises in Taman Rishah. According to its Chairperson, Mr. Amos, the home is continuously trying to uplift these underprivileged children not only with education but also with skills training that may serve them well later on in life. Currently, the children are into agriculture with a plan to explore hydroponic farming soon. Besides picking up new skills, they can also help to reduce the home’s monthly food bill.
