The programme proves that Tourism Selangor is committed in empowering the domestic tourism sector, post COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic that had hit Malaysia unexpectedly since March naturally impacted the country’s tourism industry. However, the reopening of the domestic tourism sector in conjunction with the enforcement of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) phase seems to have given a new light to this severely affected industry.
In fuelling proactive efforts towards the reestablishment of the tourism industry with the vision to “reset tourism”, Tourism Selangor as the state’s official agency to promote tourism has actively mobilised a domestic tourism promotional campaign, ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’.
To promote the state, Tourism Selangor has taken the bold step post-COVID-19 pandemic, by organising the Jelajah Pesona Selangor 2020 programme to the east coast state of Terengganu on 22nd September, 2020. The delegation from Selangor comprised senior officials from Tourism Selangor, MATTA Selangor and Selangor State Government State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN). They were joined by representatives from four Local Authority offices, namely Sepang Municipal Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, Kuala Selangor District Council and Hulu Selangor District Council.
The Jelajah Pesona Selangor programme to Terengganu received positive cooperation from MATTA Terengganu plus Tourism Terengganu. It was also supported by the EXCO office for Tourism, Culture & Information Technology, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MoTAC) Terengganu, as well as the east coast office of Tourism Malaysia.
The tour began with a Business-to-Business (B2B) meetup involving tourism operators who were specially invited from Selangor, before continuing with a Government-to-Government (G2G) session.
The programme was also participated by 9 business operators in Selangor, who promoted their tourism products in Terengganu. They were Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Farm in the City, Chocolate Museum, GM Klang, Sky Mirror Tour & Travel, Persatuan Homestay Selangor, Selangor Fruit Valley and JumpStreet Asia.
Jelajah Pesona Selangor will continue with a tour to Penang from 7th until 9th October, 2020. Loaded with the essence of tourism, it is believed that this programme can provide bilateral benefits to both the Selangor State Government and the host state government to drive domestic tourism by increasing the number of tourists, especially during this post-COVID-19 pandemic period.
Tuan Azrul Shah Bin Mohamad, General Manager of Tourism Selangor in a statement said, “This Jelajah Pesona Selangor programme is the best platform to introduce the State of Selangor as a superior holiday destination loaded with attractive tourism products both new and existing.
“It is hoped that this smart collaboration can provide mutual benefits that will further prosper the tourism industry to the highest level. This will indirectly open a wider opportunity in an effort to intensify the Tourism Promotion Plan to encourage more entry of domestic tourists, especially to the State of Selangor Darul Ehsan,” added Tuan Azrul Shah.
Along with the ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ Campaign which is actively promoted on Tourism Selangor’s official social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn; the Jelajah Pesona Selangor programme is a significant addition to Selangor’s Tourism Promotion Plan due to the huge potential it has in introducing the state as a preferred tourist destination in Malaysia.
What is more interesting, the involvement of Selangor tourism product operators in the Jelajah Pesona Selangor programme allows product introduction and promotional sessions to be done directly to tourism industry players.
The results of this partnership are expected to be delivered to the target group comprising local tourists residing outside the State of Selangor – contributors to the state’s economic growth through the findings of the tourism industry.
