Selangor Sets the Stage for Sports Tourism in 2025
As Selangor gears up for Visit Selangor Year 2025, a major partnership is set to put the state in the spotlight.
Tourism Selangor has teamed up with PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit (SIC) to host the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia 2024 (MotoGP™ Malaysia), which will run from 1st to 3rd November. This collaboration marks a significant push to boost international tourism and establish Selangor as a top sports destination, with an ambitious goal to welcome 8 million visitors next year.
The upcoming MotoGP™ Malaysia promises more than just adrenaline-pumping action on the racetrack, with 200,000 visitors expected, a 10% increase from last year’s event. The aim is to showcase Selangor’s vibrant cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure, ensuring an all-round memorable experience for attendees from near and far.
Beyond Racing: Exploring Selangor’s Attractions
YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor’s EXCO for Local Government and Tourism, highlighted that MotoGP™ Malaysia is an ideal platform to showcase the state’s diverse attractions.
He said, “This event not only promotes Selangor’s potential in sports tourism but also strengthens our collaboration with government and private sectors, driving greater public engagement. It’s a chance to show the world what Selangor has to offer.”
To complement the motorsport spectacle, Tourism Selangor will be hosting an exhibition that highlights local attractions. Visitors can explore experiences such as white-water rafting and paragliding in Kuala Kubu Bharu, paragliding in Jugra, and kayaking through mangrove forests.
The exhibition will also feature local produce from FAMA Selangor and HL Dragon Fruit, along with free samples of traditional foods, providing attendees with a true taste of Selangor’s local flavours.
A Milestone Year for PETRONAS SIC
This year holds special meaning for PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif expressed his excitement about the collaboration, aiming to make the MotoGP™ Malaysia experience unforgettable.
“Selangor consistently tops domestic tourism, and our partnership with Tourism Selangor will take this event to the next level. We look forward to uniting visitors under the spirit of celebration and showing off the unique cultural experiences that make Selangor so appealing,” he remarked.
Countdown to Visit Selangor Year 2025
Although the full launch of Visit Selangor Year 2025 is scheduled for December, a special pre-launch event will be held on 3rd November during the MotoGP™, with Chief Minister Dato’ Amirudin bin Shari leading the ceremony.
The year-long campaign aims to attract 5.6 million local tourists and 2.4 million international travellers, with RM 11.2 billion in expected tourism revenue. The initiative will promote various aspects of the state’s tourism, including eco-tourism, adventure activities, medical tourism, culinary delights, and sports.
