Tourism Selangor Launches “Eager To Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign
Taking a Step Towards Strengthening State’s Domestic Tourism with a Discerning Domestic Tourism Promotional Campaign by Tourism Selangor.
The Selangor State Government through its official Tourism Promotion Agency, Tourism Selangor, continues its proactive move towards strengthening the state’s domestic tourism with the implementation of “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign. The Campaign was initially introduced via digital platform commencing 10th June, following the announcement by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC) on the reopening of domestic tourism in concurrence with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
It is known by many, tourism is one of the industries severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which has taken the world by storm. Several tourism operators had to halt their businesses. Some may continue operating without making any profits, while those who solely depend on the industry have lost their source of income.
Understanding this worrisome situation, the Selangor State Government has taken the first step in announcing two Economic Stimulus Packages, along with an Economic Recovery Plan which was announced by YAB. Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor on 13th July. The Economic Recovery Plan includes a Tourism Aid Package with total allocation of a staggering RM 2,600,000.00.
RM553,000 from this sum was given as a one-off incentive amounting to RM 1,000 per person, which the State Government on 19th November had officially handed over to a total of 553 recipients comprising 486 members of Selangor Tourist Guide’s Association (SGTA), 16 homestay coordinators authorised by MOTAC, and 51 Selangor Community Hosts.
The second element to the Tourism Aid Package is the publication of “Selangor’s Tourism Voucher” subsidy with an allocation of RM 2,000,000.00. Selangor’s Tourism Voucher has been officially activated at “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign Launch held in Shah Alam on 17th December.
The launch which was attended by the media was officiated by YAB. Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar Selangor, alongside YB. Tuan Hee Loy Sian, Chairman of Standing Committees of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs of Selangor State; and Tuan Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, General Manager of Tourism Selangor.
The voucher is offered in the form of electronic wallet cash-backs plus electronic vouchers amounting to RM 200 for each successful registrant. These vouchers are to be used to purchase from a list of tourism packages offered on the electronic wallet application, Touch n’ Go E-Wallet and marketplace application, Lazada Malaysia featured via a special micro-link – “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign.
The vouchers will commence sales on both e-commerce platforms on 8th until 31st January 2021, with the validity on the purchased packages up until 31st June 2021. In honouring the frontliners, Selangor State Government is offering a 3,000-application quota, special to Selangor’s frontliners combating COVID-19 in the state.
At the same event, Tourism Selangor has also introduced Che Puan Juliana Evans as Ambassador of “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign for a 2-year appointment. Che Puan Juliana Evans will be working hand-in-hand with Tourism Selangor in promoting the campaign initiatives and Selangor’s tourism gems on her dedicated social media platform. This appointment is coherent with Tourism Selangor’s vision to reach out to a larger audience base with a “fresh” and up-to-date alternative via digital platform.
In partnership of Tourism Selangor and Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA), a total of 17 “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” tourism packages were also launched the same day. This partnership involves the coordination and efforts in putting together a list of Selangor’s tourism packages which are then to be marketed by tourism agencies registered with MITA.
“Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign is fuelled by the digital platform with most of its initiatives carried out online including Selangor e-Travel Fair, Social Media Campaign with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), along with digital and online advertising. The advertising medium is also widened to incorporate stand-still and digital billboards, plus unipoles at several strategic locations in Malaysia.
Other initiatives include the introduction of Jelajah Pesona Selangor programme to other Malaysian States, as well as a number of tourism events planned in-line, to be executed consistent with the new norms which emphasise on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as stipulated by the Malaysian National Security Council.
“Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign is driven towards a well-rounded execution which also includes smart partnerships and the strengthening of relationships with tourism industry players such as hotel operators, tourism agencies, airlines, and the media to promote Selangor’s tourism attractions on a bigger scale, inclusive of integrated tourism packages which will take tourists to all 9 Districts in Selangor.
As such, Selangor State Government through Tourism Selangor places high hopes on “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign towards bringing significant positive impacts onto domestic tourism in an attempt to revive the industry, which will subsequently fuel the state’s economy.
