Ipoh City Council: Perak State Level National Day Parade Best Contingent
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) Contingent marched its way to victory at the Perak State Level National Day Parade on 31st August. This year’s celebration was hosted in the historic town of Taiping.
MBI won in two categories: Best Contingent and Best Costume.
According to the City Council’s Public Relations Officer, Mohd Syahrizal Azmi, the 57-member contingent stepped up its game at this year’s Merdeka Parade compared to 2018, when the team “only” won Best Costume, and came in second for Best Contingent.
The contingent, which only managed to train for one month prior, was accompanied by officials and officers from various departments within the Local Authority.
Meanwhile, the eye-catching Jalur Gemilang-inspired costume was designed by MBI’s interior designer, Faridah Abd. Aziz. The outfit with traditional elements, including tanjak and kain sampin, also depicted a futuristic lifestyle. Notable was the 14-pointed star on its bodice, along with the MBI emblem to symbolise unity.
This spectacular victory was also thanks to the strong support from Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.
For their effort, besides a certificate of participation, members of the contingent also bagged RM5,000 cash prize per category, presented by HRH the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
Other winners of the event were Jabatan Agama Islam Perak (JAIP) for Government Department Category, Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Nan Hwa Sitiawan won Best Marching Band, and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) achieved Best Institute of Higher Learning.
