Ipoh Car-Free Day Merdeka Edition (Aug 2016)
The Merdeka edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day last Sunday attracted a massive crowd of 7,000, the highest since the monthly car-free day event has been observed in the city.
This tenth edition was also participated by YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin bt. Dato’ Mohammed Radzi, Perak State Executive Councillor & Chairperson for Tourism, Arts & Culture as well as Perak State Secretary YB Dato’ Seri Dato Puhat Nayan and Ipoh Council Secretary Encik Zakuan Zakaria.
With patriotic songs played throughout the event in line with its National Day theme, kindergarten pupils were garbed in traditional costumes and waved the Jalur Gemilang. Led by their guardians, they did a mini National Day parade. It was a good way to instil patriotism in Malaysians, beginning with the young generation.
The Ipoh Car-Free Day Programme is held with the aim of achieving lower carbon footprint in the city as well as to provide additional, albeit temporary, recreational areas for the community.
