Ipoh Car-Free Day – A Cleaner, Greener & Smarter Lifestyle
The 3rd Ipoh Car-Free Day since our country entered the endemic phase, or the 52nd edition since its implementation was special.

This morning’s event was graced by participants from the North Kuching City Commission (DBKU) who came to Ipoh on a network-cum-study tour, exchanging ideas with the Ipoh City Council. The delegation was led by two deputy directors, divisional heads and 26 representatives from various department units.

The monthly Ipoh Car-Free Day held every fourth Sunday of the month, takes place within a total distance of 3 kilometres in Greentown, Ipoh, that involves the closure of Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil and Persiaran Bandaraya.

With the slogan, A Cleaner, Greener & Smarter Lifestyle, the programme aims to raise awareness among the community on the importance of caring for the environment. It is hoped that Ipohites will practise a green and low-carbon lifestyle.

Today’s theme was International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is a day observed around the world annually on 26th June. Also, World Environment Day on 5th June is also very much in line with the objective of Ipoh Car-Free Day.

Among the activities this morning were leisure cycling and free dental check-up, kicked off by the cutting of a “durian cake” by Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin. The cake in the shape of a durian and baked using durian kampung, as well as the durian buffet, was jointly sponsored by the Perak Food Tourism Association (PFTA) and Adventure360.

The Ipoh City Council aspires to make Ipoh a Low Carbon City by 2030. Participants were reminded to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) post-COVID-19 pandemic, as outlined by the National Security Council.
