Ipoh Car-Free Day: 2nd Anniversary Celebration
This morning’s Ipoh Car-Free Day was the event’s second anniversary, since its establishment in October 2015. This car-free event, with the primary aim of achieving lower carbon footprint in the city, is hosted on the fourth Sunday of every month along the stretch of Jalan Raja DiHilir, Ipoh, from 7am to 10am.
This edition was also slightly more colourful. As it was held in conjunction with Deepavali which fell on 18th Oct, some of the visitors were dressed in their best traditional Indian costumes.
If you have been following my blog, you would have noticed regular coverage on Ipoh Car-Free Day. This is the 23rd edition, thus far.
Free Pap Smear Screening
Did I notice anything new this morning? Yes, of course. There was a mobile clinic set up by The National Population and Family Development Board (LPKNN).
The Board currently offers free pap smear tests for women at all Klinik Nur Sejahtera and Klinik Subfertility LPPKN, until 30th Nov, 2017.
Updates on Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5)
Also, if you have been waiting for the tin dredge TT5 to reopen, well, I have got good news. The dredge has started to welcome visitors since 1st Oct, 2017, after closing for about two years for repair works. Currently under the management of MB Inc, guided tours inside the tin dredge are conducted, for group size of up to 20 pax.
The dredge is open from 9am to 6pm, Tuesdays to Sundays. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is RM10 adult and RM5 per child (8 to 12 years) as well as senior citizens above 65.
Besides TT5, two other components that are ready for visitors are Anjung @ TT5 (former office converted to gallery) and Palong @ TT5, where visitors are able to try their hand panning for tin ore.

For a change, a private company held its Family Day to coincide with Ipoh Car-Free Day.
Apart from supporting the event, it was also to encourage their staff and family members to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle.
Best Destination Manager Award For Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Zamri Man
This second anniversary of Ipoh Car-Free Day couldn’t be held at a more opportune time, following the achievement of Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Zamri Man, who received the Best Destination Manager Award at the 8th TPO General Assembly For Asia Pacific Cities hosted at Tongyeong City, Republic of Korea, last week.
TPO stands for Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities. Members of TPO are from ten countries, represented by 81 cities and their tourism agencies.

2nd year already. there will be more years to come
what a healthy lifestyle. I have joined in a couple of KL Car free weekends before, on Sundays at KLCC area. Ran a couple of km.. oh, I need to get that lifestyle back again!
It looks like a really interesting event! It nice that everyone come out and join the event together.
A great event for all – I wish more cities are doing this kind of event with the municipals.
KL also have this right? Not sure whether this is enforced like Ipoh. Great events!
I always love to see how Ipoh has acted and join this car free day that organised in Ipoh! You guys definitely rock this celebration and it was a good cause for reduce pollution too!
I hope such events are organised in my city too . Its going to create such a healthy way of life which not only will help people but also the environment . It seems to be a very effective solution to the issue of rising pollution. Great job
I didn’t know there is Ipoh car free day too! Ipoh is really keeping up to the KL standard.
Love getting updates of the city through your blog.
