Hotel Maison Boutique, Pudu, Kuala Lumpur
After being grounded within Perak borders for approximately 2.5 months, it was great to be out and about again. My first stop was the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. I was hosted at Hotel Maison Boutique for a night at an older neighbourhood of Pudu.
I took a cab over. Funnily, my driver couldn’t see the hotel even though it was right smack in front of us. He asked me if I knew the place. Well, I didn’t but the large building didn’t escape my eyes like it did his. LOL Hotel Maison Boutique is a conspicuous red building at the corner lot of a block of shop houses, just behind its sister property, Hotel Sentral Pudu.
If you are familiar with Kuala Lumpur, then you would know that Pudu is a neighbouring township of Imbi. Therefore, Hotel Maison Boutique is within walking distance from the shopping haven which comprised of Berjaya Times Square, Low Yat Plaza and Sungei Wang Plaza. Obviously, Pudu being an older section of Kuala Lumpur, offers its own range of eateries and shopping spots.
Anyway, this post is heavily laden with photographs of Hotel Maison Boutique as I am delighted to share them with you. As you know, I have stayed at many different classes of hotels over these few years and hardly have I been as impressed as I was with Maison. You can tell just by the number of photos that I have included. I don’t know which ones to leave out as they are all equally good!
Hotel Maison Boutique, opened for business in 2015, is a modest hotel with only 42 rooms over four floors. However, each room is different and leaves a lasting impression on guests. There are four categories of rooms: Superior, Theme, Premier and Executive.
There are altogether 18 themes, from Fairy Tale to Adventure, Science Fiction and Celebrity, just to name some of them. Every room has been carefully crafted and decorated in detail according to its theme.
From what I understand, the owner was inspired by her visit to Las Vegas in the United States, and she wanted to capture the same liveliness in her hotel. Did you know that Hotel Maison Boutique is only one of ten properties in the local hotel chain?
In my opinion, it could easily be Hotel Sentral Management’s gem, having won Readers’ Choice Awards by Going Places (in-flight magazine of Malaysia Airlines) in 2015 and 2016 for Best Boutique Hotel.
Fairy Tale Executive Room
With hand-painted walls, custom-designed wallpaper, specially-made bathtub, this Fairy Tale Executive Room is extremely popular for commercial photoshoot. I love its dreamy feel and indeed, it has the essence of a fairy tale, a fantasy world that we hope to enter and not wake up from the dream.
Love Bug Executive Room
Inspired by Herbie the Love Bug, a Walt Disney character of a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, this room is highly in demand by fans of Lindsay Lohan, the lead actress in Herbie: Fully Loaded (movie).
The bed was made from a real VW Beetle cut in half. Besides, the carpet was custom designed to match the theme of the room. That’s real dedication to the art.
Michael Jackson Themed Room
If you are a fan of MJ, you must stay in this room for at least one night. Serious thought was put into the decoration of this room that even the bathroom tiles are in black and white, to pay tribute to the King of Pop, who sang a hit single, Black or White.
James Bond Themed Room
Who doesn’t know James Bond? A hit with fans of Agent 007, this room has a decorative fireplace. Moreover, the bedside lamps are in the shape of a gun. Feeling bored? Check out the collection of James Bond movies in DVD, or be mesmerised by the diamond-shaped bathroom tiles.
Marilyn Monroe Premier Room
This was the room assigned to me. It pays tribute to the legend, Marilyn Monroe. It was set up as a honeymoon suite, appropriately so as this room has an open concept for a bathroom where its bathtub has no enclosure. This is an experience to be had for newly married couples.
Space Odyssey Themed Room
Those who like space, galaxy and Star Wars love this room. It was too dim for me to work on the computer, but to have this bluish light effect was the whole idea behind the space theme. You wouldn’t be aware that this room is actually window-less. I thought it was a pretty neat idea to turn a disadvantage (no window) into something special and memorable.
Princess Suite Executive Room
Exuding a sense of style and class, this Princess Suite Executive Room is also a top choice for those seeking a unique backdrop for commercial shooting. If you are a reader of fashion magazines, perhaps you can recognise this room from the advertisements of premium fashion labels. If you are a trendsetter, you must leave your footprints in this room.
Rooms at Hotel Maison Boutique go for as low as under RM200, for Superior Rooms, the lowest category. Rates go higher for peak seasons, but to enjoy special rates and receive instant confirmation on your reservation, join the Free HSM Priority Membership via www.hotelmaison.com.my or www.hsm.my.
Superior Room
By the way, Hotel Maison Boutique offers free internet usage, which is most convenient for guests who need to do their travel research or make travel plans online. Those who want to use the meeting room may do so at the property’s sister hotel, the 3-star Hotel Sentral Pudu, just a stone’s throw away.
During my stay at Hotel Maison Boutique, besides the complimentary breakfast that is inclusive for guests, I had the opportunity to take my lunch at the hotel’s coffee house, Bistro 36.
They are currently offering a set lunch menu, available from Monday to Friday from 12pm to 2.30pm, at an affordable price of RM18.90 only, with complimentary Soup of the Day and Ice Lemon Tea. You may, of course, opt for the à la carte menu.
As you can see from these photos, I ordered Grilled Herb Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce from the set lunch menu. The meal exceeded my expectation as the chicken was tender and juicy. If I had more time at the hotel, I wouldn’t mind eating here daily.
And before I forget, there is one very important aspect about Hotel Maison Boutique: free shuttle service is provided for in-house guests to visit major attractions in the city, such as KL Sentral, Bukit Bintang, Berjaya Times Square, KLCC, KL Bird Park and Petaling Steet. Prior reservation is required.
