Harian Metro Mountain Bike Grand Prix Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia 2014
Following the success of the inaugural Harian Metro Mountain Bike Grand Prix Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia last year which attracted the participation of 7,142 cyclists not only from Malaysia but also from Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Europe, the first round of the 2014 edition kicked off in front of Dewan Jubli Perak in Kuala Kangsar, Perak on August 24th.
Organised by Harian Metro, a top Malay language daily newspaper, and Tourism Malaysia, the objectives of such a mountain biking event were to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle through cycling and also to promote sports tourism.
The 1,300 cyclists who participated in the categories of Jamboree Metro Open and XC Metro were flagged off by the Minister of Tourism and Culture Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz himself, no less!
This grand prix cycling competition will see cyclists compete in five states that offer different challenges, whether on the road or off course. Next route will be Temerloh, Pahang on 26th and 27th Sept, followed by Penang on 25th and 26th Oct, then Melaka on 28th and 29th Nov, and wraps up in Selangor on 27th and 28th December.
The total cash prize of RM215,000 will surely be strong motivation for the cyclists to give their best.
